Best Ways to Deal with Irritation After Shaving

Digital Doctor 30 Jul, 2023

Whether you are a man or a woman if you have shaved before you must know how irritating it can become at times. While the smooth skin after shaving is much desirable, the irritation it causes can be problematic and hard to bear. Razor burns are the root cause of the irritation after shaving.

The key signs and symptoms of razor burn include:

  • Rash
  • Redness
  • Itchiness
  • Swelling
  • Tenderness
  • Burning sensation
  • Small red bumps

Treating razor burns:

Razor burns can be very annoying and irritating but experts suggest that it is a skin problem that heals itself with time.  However, at times, one cannot bear the irritation for a long time and hence doing something to soothe down the condition becomes very important. Here we have compiled a list of the key treatments for razor burns that you can try at home to get some relief:

Leave your skin alone:

If you want to get rid of the inflammation, irritation and infection, you better leave the affected site alone do not touch it or shave over it.

Cold compresses:

An easy way to reduce the itching and inflammation is to place a cool and wet compress on the affected area.  Take a clean cloth and dip it into cold water, wring the excess water and put the cloth on the affected area to get the best results.

Apply astringent liquids:

Make a natural astringent liquid and apply it to the affected area to get relief. An astringent can help you get rid of the irritation caused by both razor burns and razor bumps. To make a homemade astringent you need to mix apple cider vinegar, black tea brew, tea tree oil, witch hazel extract.

Natural oils:

When you soften and hydrate your skin, it becomes less irritating. Natural oils help you in getting the desired effects. Some of the natural oils that can help you get rid of razor burns are avocado oil, coconut oil, Olive oil, sweet almond oil, etc.

Aloe Vera:

Aloe Vera is known for having soothing abilities. It is proven efficient in soothing burns, cuts, and scrapes. Moreover, there are certain reports which suggest that there are certain enzymes in Aloe Vera juice which reduced the inflammation as well.

Razor burns can be very irritating. While it is recommended to be very cautious as you shave, these remedies are effective in dealing with razor burns if they anyhow become a problem
