The Impact of Climate Change on Skin

Dr. Harish Prasad BR 15 Oct, 2020

There is no doubt that the weather can have a straight impact on your skin. How it affects you individually is dependent on many factors, which includes your genetic makeup, skin type and how much your skin is exposed to various kinds of weather. For some of us, skin tends to be more oily in the summer and flaky during winter. Dermatologists credit this to changes in definite weather characteristics such as temperature and humidity levels.

However, if your skin reacts to an unexpected change in temperature, you will want to preserve reliability in your complexion. This means that, with the changing weather, you may need to alter your skincare schedule and adopt new methods to make sure your skin is in good health.

Effects of hot weather on your skin

During summer, your skin complexion can change from usual to oily, which may result in breakouts. Higher temperatures allow the skin to exude more oil which leaves it looking oily. Oily skin may not blend well with makeup and can give you that ‘melting’ look – not apt when you’re trying to socialize. To guard your skin from the changing weather, you may need to correct your skincare routine to slot in cleansing products to keep breakouts and discoloration away. You might have to switch to a light-weight moisturizer and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Remember that dehydration can leave your skin dry and aggravated and in some cases, it may result in the configuration of dry patches.

Effects of cold weather on your skin

Weather during autumn and winter can cause skin aridness and result in flaky and irritated skin. Very cold temperatures along with low humidity and strong winds do not give enough moisture to your skin. It doesn’t help when you use central heating while you are indoors since hot air is usually low in moisture and leaves your skin dry and prickly. The surplus dead skin can also block your pores and cause you to build up acne. Fascinatingly, most people fall short to become conscious that the comfort eating connected with the cold weather could also be contributing to skin breakouts

Changing weather can change your skin texture, color, and elasticity. If your skin being sensitive to climate changes and you just can’t keep up with the latest over-the-counter products, ensure you do not hide behind your sweaters.  You can schedule an appointment with leading licensed dermatologists on Skin Beauty Pal app.
