Foods that Make Your Brain Smarter & Boost Memory

Digital Doctor 20 May, 2022

Our brain develops at every stage of life. Right from the fetal development in the mother’s womb to a grown man, aging with time- brain development is different at every stage and plays a crucial role in the overall development of the body. While brain development is a natural process, it can be supported by certain food items. These food items or as we can say brainy foods help boost memory and learning abilities in babies as they are rich in certain nutrients.

The brain is responsible for several functions including physical movement coordination, mental health, behavioral responses, and emotional development in babies. At each phase of development- prenatal, newborn, infant, adolescence to adulthood- the brain develops simultaneously. Additionally, the brain is responsible for communication, cognitive skills, concentration, memory, and more. With brainy foods, you can ensure that the child receives due nutrition to have a healthily developed brain.

Brain healthy foods

Food that is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants is considered brainy food. With the right intake of antioxidants, brain oxidative damage can be prevented which is a core reason for several brain-related diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Fish

Fish is an excellent source of Omega-3 fatty acids. Eating fish can help reduce inflammation which promotes the function of neurons in the brain. Also, Omega-3 fatty acid influences the release of serotonin hormone which promotes a happy mood. Some amazing fish varieties for a baby’s brain development include Salmon, sardine, tuna, mackerel, etc.

Eggs

The amino acid present in the eggs is responsible for the secretion of neurotransmitters. The high quantity of protein present in the eggs makes amino acids that are required for brain development.

Oats

Oats are considered brainy food because it is rich in nutrients.  vitamins E, B complex, and zinc. Which are recommended nutrients for brain development. Zinc promotes the brain development of the child in the womb and hence pregnant ladies are prescribed zinc-rich food and supplements.

Peanut butter

As a vegetarian, you can also get your supply of protein from peanut butter. It is rich in protein, and vitamin E which helps reduce stress levels in both children and adults. It also contains Thiamine which helps promote the brain’s power to utilize sugar in the body.

These are some brainy foods that one must include in their diet to ensure the right development of the brain in children and adults.
