Improve Cognitive Tasks Performance with a Quick Walk

Digital Doctor 29 Jun, 2022

Unlike the common belief. The researchers at the University of Rochester have concluded that walking can have a positive effect on your cognitive tasks if you know how to use your neural resources. However, this is limited to a handful of people only and there is no guarantee that everyone would respond to it in the same way. But this does not restrict you from finding out your luck, does it?

Well, the benefits of walking for mental health and cognitive excellence are much talked about from the very start. It is not only a great exercise to lose unwanted fat around your belly, but also an amazing way to promote the functionality of your brain.

So, what are the other mental health benefits of walking? Let’s find out.

Improved overall cognitive functioning

A good 20 minutes walk can help you improve your cognitive functioning significantly and have a healthy brain. A study performed by Harvard in 2016 had several participants take a test and those who were regular with their walks were able to score better along with a quicker and more accurate reaction time.

The release of endorphins

Endorphin is a neurochemical responsible for your mental health. When you walk, the brain releases endorphin which lowers stress and pain sensitivity. Setting up a daily walking goal and then achieving it is in itself a great morale booster. It is the endorphin that motivates you to conquer other aspects of life as well.

Overcome the complications of mental age and fatigue

The University of Georgia, in 2008, found that walking can help lower fatigue and boost mental age. Just 20 minutes of walking can result in tremendous elimination of fatigue from the body.

Makes the hippocampus strong

Hippocampus is the part of the brain that is responsible for creating and storing memories. Many people struggle with forgetfulness and their mornings are full of cognitive haze. For such people, walking is an acute remedy as it makes the hippocampus strong. The size of the hippocampus can grow even with the lowest grade of exercise.

Makes you more creative

Reports conclude that walking can increase the creative output of a person. If you want to bring out your creative ideas, try going on a 20 minutes walk.

Walking also increases the blood flow in your brain which means you have a healthy and fully functional brain at all times. developing a habit of walking is one of the best ways you can save yourself from cognitive troubles and enjoy a healthy brain function. Using the step tracker function will prove helpful in tracking your daily goals and ensuring full activity.
